Meet Stephen Smith, qualified gold- and silversmith, entrepreneur, artist and owner of Amber Tree Lodge who is always around to meet guests and offer friendly advice on where to find a great meal or the best clubs and entertainment in the Mother City.

Stephen trained in his unique craft at the Alberta College of Art in Canada and completed his training in Cape Town at the renowned Ruth Prowse School of Art. He travels to Namibia to source unusual crystals from the remote Brandberg region which he then transforms into beautiful pendants in gold and silver with these semi precious gems.

Having travelled extensively through Africa and with an appreciation for the ethnic art of the First Nations of Canada the ethnic styles are echoed throughout his designs which are on display at Amber Tree Lodge.

He matriculated from Rondebosch Boys High in Cape Town after spending his early years in the Karoo which is probably where his love for the outdoors manifested itself.

Stephen offers short courses in jewellery making at Amber Tree Lodge where guests can create their very own piece of jewellery to take home.  A wonderful memory from a master craftsman and Cape Town!
